Happy business owners from web design services and automation

Why your website isn’t getting inquiries (and how to fix it)

You can see people visiting your website, but the phone isn’t ringing and the contact form stays quiet. It’s one of the most frustrating problems a business owner can have, because the site looks fine to you. Usually the cause is one of a handful of fixable issues. Here’s how to spot them.

1. Visitors can’t tell what you do in the first few seconds

When someone lands on your homepage, they should instantly understand what you offer, who it’s for and where you work. A clever slogan or a big photo with no explanation makes them work too hard, and most won’t bother.

The fix: make your headline say plainly what you do and for whom, for example “Emergency plumbing in Dallas, 24/7”. Put your main service and location above the fold.

2. There’s no clear next step

Many sites list services in detail but never tell the visitor what to do. If the only way to get in touch is a “Contact” link in the menu, you’re losing people who were ready to act.

The fix: choose one main action, such as “Call now” or “Get a free quote”, and repeat it as a clear button on every page, including at the top and bottom. On mobile, a click-to-call button makes a big difference.

3. It’s slow or awkward on a phone

Most local searches happen on phones. If your site takes ages to load, text is tiny, or buttons are hard to tap, visitors leave before they read a word.

The fix: open your site on your own phone and try to contact yourself. Time how long it takes to load. If anything is frustrating, it’s frustrating for your customers too. Compress large images and remove anything that slows the page down.

4. The contact form asks for too much, or doesn’t work

Long forms put people off. Worse, some forms quietly fail, sending messages into spam or nowhere at all.

The fix: ask only for what you need to reply: name, phone or email, and a short message. Then test it. Submit your own form and check the message arrives where you expect.

5. There’s nothing that builds trust

People are wary of businesses they don’t know. A site with no reviews, no photos of real people and no details about you feels risky.

The fix: add genuine reviews, a photo of you or your team, examples of your work and any accreditations. Make your phone number and address easy to find. These small signals reassure people enough to get in touch.

6. You’re getting the wrong visitors

Sometimes the site is fine but the traffic is wrong: people from the wrong area, or looking for something you don’t offer.

The fix: make sure your pages mention the services and areas you actually want to win. Write them in the words customers search with, and give your main services their own pages.

A quick self-check

  1. Can a stranger tell what you do and where within five seconds?
  2. Is there a clear button to call or get in touch on every page?
  3. Does the site load quickly and work well on your phone?
  4. Does your contact form arrive in your inbox?
  5. Is there at least one real review and a real photo?

If you answered “no” to two or more, your website is probably costing you customers. The good news is that each of these is fixable, and a new site built around these principles doesn’t have to be expensive or slow. Ours start at $750 for five pages and are delivered in two weeks.
